Why it works

Your day, 9:00 to 17:00

No ping

09:00, when you sit down

14:00, then 19:00

2: 09:00 to 14:00, then 14:00 to 17:00

6am ping

06:00, while you're asleep

11:00, then 16:00

3: 09:00 to 11:00, 11:00 to 16:00, then 16:00 to 17:00

The maths is one line: ping time + 5 hours = your first reset. Add 5 more hours for the second. So 06:00 + 5 = 11:00, and 11:00 + 5 = 16:00. Three limits where you had two is the 50%.
Without it, a heavy morning can burn through your limit by 11 and leave you stuck till 2. With it, 11 is when you get a fresh one.
My own Claude day already starts this way, by accident. My morning brief and my inbox check both run as scheduled Claude tasks around 7am every weekday, so my window is open before I sit down.
